Sabyasachi opened its first international store in the US in New York’s West Village. Housing a full range of menswear and womenswear, ‘The New York Edit’ is the luxury brand’s new collection. The new store is located within The Archive building on 160 Christopher Street, the brand announced on Facebook.
The store is intended to depict Mukherjee’s journey from Kolkata to New York, and it reflects the rich opulence for which his designs are known. The brand’s latest collection is also inspired by the city and combines traditional craftsmanship with more casual shapes.
“I knew I wanted to create the undiluted Sabyasachi experience for New York that India has known for decades,” designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee stated, adding, “A major part of that is in the location itself. Be it Stonewall or Christopher Street or West Village itself, I felt like I knew the neighbourhood through headlines and history, but it was a connection that was hard to define. And when I walked into The Archive, this magnificent Romanesque Revival building, so strong in its own legacy, I just knew this was it.”
