In the early days of the online festival season sales, non-metro cities emerged as the driving force across major e-commerce platforms, including Amazon, Meesho, and Flipkart, reported PTI.
During its Blockbuster Sale, Meesho, backed by Softbank, witnessed a remarkable 80 per cent of orders originating from Tier-2 and small cities within the first three days. Flipkart, on the inaugural day of The Big Billion Days, reported over 60 per cent of orders hailing from non-metro cities.
“More than 60 per cent of the orders were placed from Tier-1, 2, and 3 cities,” stated Flipkart, referring to the sales data on 7th October.
Amazon disclosed that over 80 per cent of its customers were from non-metro cities during the initial days of its festive sale, the “Great Indian Festival.” On the first day of The Big Billion Days (TBBD), Flipkart experienced 9.1 crore visits, while Amazon recorded 9.5 crore customer visits within the initial 48 hours.
A spokesperson from Meesho stated that over 80 per cent of the orders on their platform originated from Tier-2 cities including locations like Dhanbad, Chittorgarh, Erode, Jabalpur, Kurnool, Tezpur, and Vapi.
E-commerce companies collectively generated an estimated total sale of around Rs. 40,000 crore during the first phase of the festive season sales. A recent report by a market research firm projects online sales during the upcoming festive season to grow by 18-20 per cent, reaching Rs. 90,000 crore this year.
