If media reports are anything to go by then Credo Brands Marketing Pvt. Ltd., which owns denim wear brand Mufti, will soon be acquired by private equity firm ChrysCapital Advisors LLP for Rs. 460-500 crore. The firm is still in early talks with retailer to buy it.
Mufti was launched in 1998 with one driving ambition i.e. to provide an alternative dressing solution that didn’t conform to the ‘uniform’ codes of mainstream fashion. The brand is known for its T-shirts, shorts, sportswear and blazers. Kamal Khushlani, owner of the brand, holds a 65 per cent stake while private investors hold the rest.

“Both Khushlani and private investors are ready to sell the entire stake in the company and the deal is in advanced stage. An exclusivity agreement has been signed with ChrysCapital,” a person close to the development was quoted as saying by a leading business newspaper.
According to the company’s website, the brand is currently available in approximately 110 LFSs (large format stores), 1,400 MBOs (multi-brand outlets) and 250 EBOs (exclusive brand outlets) pan-India.
