UK-based apparel and home retailer, Marks and Spencer (M&S) which is the official tailor for the England team for FIFA, recently held ‘National Waistcoat Day’ celebrating England’s victory in the quarter-finals of the 2018 World Cup.
Beating Sweden in the game, England has now reached semi-finals. This is for the first time England qualified for semi-finals in 28 years. England will now face Croatia in semifinal, on Wednesday.
The retailer urged the nation to support the home team by posting celebratory pictures on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook with #luckywaistcoat. The retailer witnessed 35 per cent increase in sales of all M&S waistcoats. It was touted that ‘the waistcoat’ has been bringing the team extra luck.
The apparel retailer did not miss any chance and thought it would be a great chance to mark the big victory by announcing the National Waistcoat Day.
In another development, an IKEA store was invaded by some England fans after their country’s victory against Sweden. They trashed the furniture while singing their World Cup anthem, “It’s coming home.” Those involved were condemned for poor sportsmanship following Sweden’s defeat. IKEA, the Sweden based global furniture retailer, however responded calmly on the matter and earned praise on internet.
