Here’s something from Pangaia to enhance its sustainability efforts!
The sustainable British clothing brand has announced the launch of eco-friendly denim by using blend of organic cotton and also Himalayan nettle.
Himalayan nettle, which uses less water than cotton, is picked wild and so no farming resources go into it.
More on this, Dr. Amanda Parkes, Chief Innovation Officer, Pangaia, said that harvesting actually creates more jobs in addition to generating income for the local community.
Dr Amanda added that making Himalayan nettle into something that’s soft and can actually function in something like denim is where Pangaia is trying to get into. Himalayan nettle is yet another part of Pangaia’s efforts to scale responsibly.
The initial collection comprises a unisex ’90s-inspired denim jacket, unisex straight leg jeans and a women’s high-rise style, manufactured in Italy’s Candiani Denim Mill.
Notably, all these have been made using a low-water dyeing process.
Pangaia is also enhancing its ‘digital passports’ initiative further to include its denim range, so that customers can easily find more information about how their products are made and, importantly, what to do with them once they’re finished with them.
Pangaia was founded in 2018 and has all its production, marketing and operations in London, while its research, development and partnerships are in New York.
