Following its acquisition of US sportswear and footwear retailer DTLR for US $ 495 million in March 2021, JD Sports has acquired a British clothing retailer now.
The British sportswear retailer has bought the Manchester-based fashion retailer Oi Polloi and its e-commerce assets.
Notably, Peter Cowgill, Executive Chairman at JD Sports has been appointed as company director.
There have been reports that Peter will soon be exiting his role at JD Sports after serving the retailer for 17 years.
Meanwhile, the founders of Oi Polloi – Steve Sanderson and Nigel Lawson – have stepped away from business.
Oi Polloi’s acquisition is another feather in JD Sport’s cap. Besides buying DTLR in March this year, JD Sports had also acquired Liam Gallagher’s Pretty Green in 2019.
Notably, last year Competition and Market Authority (CMA) had blocked the British sportswear retailer from buying its rival Footasylum for £90 million, following which JD Sports had challenged the decision in the Competition Appeal Tribunal.
Oi Polloi sells menswear range from a selection of brands that include Beams Plus and Stone Island, amongst others.
