Looking to scale its presence in India, the US based producer of polymers and fibres, Invista (erstwhile DuPont) is said to be talking to several Indian apparel manufacturers and retailers. Already having a tie up with stalwarts of the industry such as Arvind and Raymond, the company is now targeting apparel manufacturers in Surat and Jaipur. India’s annual spandex consumption is tipped at 8-9 million kg. Propelled by the increase in the Indian demand of shape wear and apparels with high stretchability, Invista has introduced Lycra products to go with Indian ethnic wear. “We are targeting both business-to-business and end consumers,” says Paolo Briatore, Business Director, Apparel, South Asia and MD Invista.
