The Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Limited (TRIFED), a national-level organisation under the Tribal Affairs Ministry, is preparing to sign a deal with Amazon this week.
TRIFED came into existence in 1987 after Government of India initiated a number of steps to develop socio-economic conditions of the tribal population in the country.
The TRIFED’s move to collaborate with Amazon aims at expanding the retail business of the tribal handicrafts among masses and scale up sales of tribal products in the country, reportedly said Pravir Krishna, Managing Director of TRIFED.
Additionally, to increase the retail outlet (of tribal handicrafts and other products) count from the current 43, TRIFED has invited offers from retailers from all over the country to become a franchise partner of ‘Tribes India’ label.
TRIFED works to increase the income of the tribal community by marketing their products. The first showroom by the name of Tribes India was opened in 1999 in the national capital New Delhi.
