The Indian state of Jharkhand is all set to get the first khadi mall of India. The announcement was made by the state Chief Minister Raghubar Das at an event recently. The government will offer a land to the Khadi Board in the state’s Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC) campus within 15 days, to set up the first ever ‘Khadi Mall’ in the country.
The minister expressed hope that such initiative would help artisans, especially those residing in the tribal areas of the state, to grow.
The state government has also promised to offer technological aid to artisans for value addition in their products. Markets for their goods will be offered through rural, urban and tourism ‘haats’.
Jharkhand also got its first ever ‘Green khadi park’ in the state’s Seraikela-Kharsawan district. The first-of-its-kind park is spread over an area of two acres and was set up at a cost of Rs. 4 crores. It adorns 200 charkhas, which run on renewable energy.
Setting up of Khadi Mall is among other measures taken by the Jharkhand government to bridge the gap between rural people and development.
The Khadi board has been vital in offering jobs to many people in the rural areas of the state.
