Hackers in Bangladesh have recently breached the digital system of Shwapno, one of the largest retail chains in the country, and generated electronic vouchers worth Taka 1.8 million.
Media reports maintained this adding following the hacking, Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit (CTTC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s cyber-investigation team conducted a drive in the Mirpur area of the capital and arrested three members of the hacking ring, responsible for generating the e-vouchers.
Addressing a press briefing after the arrests, CTTC Chief and DMP’s Additional Police Commissioner, Md. Asaduzzaman, reportedly, maintained that Shawpno operates all its business activities — including sales monitoring and inventory management, at its 182 outlets across the Bangladesh — through its website even as the hackers managed to breach the powerful cybersecurity system of Shawpno to generate and sell large number of unusual and suspicious digital vouchers between 26 June and 9 July 2021.
The members of this hacking ring allegedly breached the security of various e-commerce sites and websites of international organisations in Bangladesh earlier as well.
