The fast-fashion clothing retailer H&M has outlined seven commitments on sustainability which include, making products with an added sustainability value; working with partners that share the same values; being ethical; being energy efficient; aiming for zero waste to landfills; using natural resources responsibly; and contributing to the development of communities.
Due to its sustainable efforts, the retailer has been successful in saving 450 million litres of water in denim production, donated 3.2 million garments to charities, undertaken more than half a million quality tests every year and employed around 74% of females in management positions.

Also, earlier this year, H&M discussed raising the minimum wages for garment workers in Bangladesh with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and is also providing a helping hand to Bangladeshi authorities through regularly reviewing the wages of workers. Karl-Johan Persson, CEO, H&M believes, “Our business idea is to offer fashion and quality at the best price and our goal is for H&M to be at the forefront of sustainability. We work hard to always strengthen our customer offering and I think that adding sustainable value to our products is one of the keys to do so.”
