Burberry appoints Gerry Murphy as Chairman Designate

The UK-based fashion brand Burberry, popular for its iconic trench coats and chequered scarves, has announced the appointment of Gerry Murphy, current Chairman of Tate and Lyle plc, to the Board as Chairman Designate, effective May 17, 2018.

Murphy will succeed Sir John, who will bid adieu from the role and from the Board after 16 years of association, after the company’s annual shareholder meeting that is scheduled to be held on July 12, 2018.

Burberry that Murphy’s experience in global retail business will be a great asset to the fashion company.

Murphy, an experienced Chair and senior board member, previously served British American Tobacco plc, Merlin Entertainments plc and Reckitt Benckiser plc as Non-executive Director.

He was also associated with Kingfisher plc, Carlton Communications, Exel plc and Greencore Group plc in various roles.

“It is a privilege to succeed Sir John as Chairman of Burberry a unique British brand,” stated Murphy, who reportedly has been an admirer of the brand which is now looking forward to working with the company through its next phase of growth.

Markedly, the retailer last month announced the appointment of Riccardo Tisci as its new Chief Creative Officer (COO). Tisci succeeded Christopher Bailey, who proclaimed to leave the fashion house in October 2017 after being associated with it for 17 long years.
