As if rechristening of the musical festival ‘Coachella’ to ‘Beychella’ was just not big enough, Queen Bey aka Beyonce has taken the Coachella fervour further by announcing a much-anticipated collaboration with Balmain to launch a Charitable Capsule Collection for all of her fans and beyond.
Balmain will be launching the collection that includes three pieces of garments on Friday, July 13, in its flagship outlet in Paris and the items will be available for sale online on Balmain.com and Beyoncé.com the next day, July 14, 2018. The collection includes pink and yellow sweatshirts Beyoncé wore on-stage during her sensational performances in Coachella this year, along with a black tee flaunting similar sorority-inspired graphics the sweatshirts had.
The idea of this collaboration birthed during the Coachella rehearsals after seeing the reaction that Beyoncé’s supporting dancers had towards the sweatshirts. Balmain’s designers sought inspiration for the sweatshirts from marching band uniforms of historically important America’s black colleges and universities. “When she saw all the dancers loving the outfits whilst she was loving her own, she realised that what we were creating on stage for her, for all the dancers, was something really impactful,” says Balmain’s Creative Director Olivier Rousteing.
Emphasising the importance of the collection in bringing Fashion, Music, and History together, the designer continued, “Beyoncé, she’s such a perfectionist; she’s someone that is so strong and has such a great point of view. She’s about feminism, empowering women, and the idea of bringing that collaboration where we can share the same ideas, the same vision of music, the same vision of fashion, the same vision of what is going on in the world, it’s more than just clothes. It’s a strong message, and I’m really proud to be a part of that.”
It doesn’t stop here as the revenue generated from this collaboration will directly go to the United Negro College Fund, right after following Beyoncé’s generous US $100,000 donation to four historically important black colleges after her Coachella performances. Rousteing even stated that the donation was the main goal of this collaboration.
A perfect amalgamation of music and fashion, all to support a cause is the exact kind of thing we can expect from a sensation like Beyoncé. You can find these sweatshirts priced at US $ 550–$1,790 and the tee, priced US $ 290 on the two websites this Saturday itself!
