Bangladesh’s central bank, Bangladesh Bank (BB), has asked the electronic payment gateways to commence paying back money to the customers who despite making advance payments did not get delivery of products from the errant e-commerce platforms even as it (Bangladesh Bank) sent letters to six payment gateways namely Foster Corporation Ltd., bKash, Nagad, Software Shop, Southeast Bank and Surjomukhi Ltd., while suggesting that they refund the customers of those digital commerce platforms, against which there are no cases under trial in the court.
Media reports maintained this while underlining given the directive from the central bank, a good number of customers are likely to have to wait for a longer period as there are, reportedly, cases against officials of certain e-commerce platforms like Dhamaka shopping, e-orange, Evaly, Sirajganj shop and Qcoom in the courts.
It may be mentioned here the Bangladesh Government, earlier in October, formed a 15-member panel in order to initiate steps to recover money from the controversial e-commerce entities consequent to receiving significant number of complaints against the online shops for non-delivery of products despite receiving advance payments.
