Asics is expanding its tennis ambassador roster by signing a multi-year footwear agreement with American tennis star Taylor Fritz. The Japanese athletic brand announced that Fritz will wear the Gel-Resolution 9 tennis shoe as part of the deal.
Fritz, currently ranked No. 12 in the world, recently returned from Paris with a bronze medal in men’s doubles at the 2024 Olympics. The four-time Grand Slam quarterfinalist is set to compete again on Monday at the US Open.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the partnership, Fritz said, “I’ve seen many top players using Asics shoes on tour, and after trying them myself, I immediately felt more comfortable than I have in years. The comfort, support, and speed are on another level. I’m proud to represent a brand with such a rich history in sports and footwear.”
Mitsuyuki Tominaga, president and COO of Asics, praised Fritz for his relentless approach to tennis and emphasised the importance of footwork in his playing style. Tominaga noted that Asics is committed to supporting Fritz throughout his career.
This partnership aligns with Asics’ recent focus on strengthening its position in the tennis category. Tominaga mentioned earlier this year that the brand aims to make tennis its second-largest revenue source, following its dominant running category. Asics’ growing presence in tennis is further supported by its association with top players like world No. 1 Novak Djokovic.
In addition to tennis, Asics is also investing in the pickleball market, recognizing its growing popularity in the US and Europe. The brand plans to develop new footwear technologies to cater to this emerging market while continuing its global expansion in tennis.
