Amazon continuously strives to make the process of shopping more convenient for its customers. Yet again there’s something from the e-commerce giant for the shoppers!
In its latest move, Amazon has announced the launch of Amazon PayCode, a new checkout option, which allows customers shopping from the website to make payments for their purchases in cash.
And it will be available at 15,000 Western Union locations across the country.
The PayCode service is available in 19 countries around the world where cash transactions are more prevalent and bank penetration is low.
The service itself, launched earlier this year in partnership with Western Union, was initially available in 10 markets: Chile, Colombia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Peru, Philippines, Taiwan and Thailand.
Ever since, it has expanded to Barbados, Costa Rica, Federated States of Micronesia, Kazakhstan, Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Palau, Kenya, Tanzania and Uruguay.
“We’re constantly innovating to improve the shopping experience on behalf of our customers, and are proud to expand Amazon PayCode to customers in the US,” said Ben Volk, Director, Payments at Amazon, in a statement.
He then added “Customers have told us they love the convenience of paying in cash. Together with Western Union, we are able to offer customers more shopping choices, enabling them to pay for their online purchases in a way that is convenient for them.”
The customers can shop first and choose the PayCode option at checkout which will generate a QR code to be shown at the Western Union locations. They have 24 hours to pay for the products in the US as opposed to the 48-hour time frame in other countries owing to shorter delivery windows in the former.
Other than this, the Amazon Cash service through which a customer can load money into their Amazon account, is also expanding and the deposits can be made from over 1,00,000 locations.
