US-based online retail giant, Amazon Inc. is opening its first state-of-the-art fulfilment centre (FCs) in Missouri, USA. The opening of the FC will create more than 1,500 full-time jobs. This was announced by Sanjay Shah, Amazon’s Vice President of North America Customer Fulfilment.
Amazon currently operates a sortation centre in Hazelwood in Missouri, where it employs hundreds of associates.
“Incredible customers and an outstanding workforce are major reasons behind our expansion in Missouri,” said Shah in a statement issued by the company.
The upcoming 800,000 square feet facility will be equipped with innovative technology such as Amazon Robotics to help in fulfilling customers’ orders. Employees at this FC will majorly pick, pack and ship small items.
Reacting on arrival of Amazon’s FC in Missouri, Steve Johnson, CEO of Missouri Partnership said that investment by Amazon will help to improve the lives of Missouri citizens. “We are excited to congratulate Amazon for yet another investment in Missouri,” added Steve Johnson.
However, the retailer is yet to announce the date to start operations at this centre.
Amazon will start operations at three of its yet to be opened FCs this year. The centres will collectively create over 3,500 full-time job opportunities for the people of the state. The retailer has been working extensively to enhance its reach and better serve its customers globally.
Apart from setting up new FC in Missouri, the online behemoth is also gearing for its foray into Colombia and Argentina in April and July this year.
Last year, it started its operations in Australia, the 13th market for the retailer in the world.
