Allbirds, the New Zealand-American retailer that is known for designing and selling apparels and footwear, has announced 10 science-based sustainability commitments.
The decision is being seen as a part of Allbirds’ ongoing mission to save the planet.
The apparel and footwear retailer has said it plans to focus on regenerative agriculture, renewable materials and responsible energy use to meet its 10 of its ambitious sustainability goals that clothing or footwear industry would have ever witnessed.
It also plans to have a tangible roadmap to attain all the said goals by 2025.
So what are these 10 new sustainability commitments!
Regenerative agriculture:
- 100 per cent of Allbirds’ wool will come from regenerative sources
- 100 per cent of Allbirds’ annual on-farm emissions from wool will be reduced or sequestered
Renewable materials:
- 75 per cent of materials used in Allbirds’ products will be sustainably sourced natural or recycled materials
- Allbirds will reduce the carbon footprint of its raw materials by 25 per cent
- Total raw materials used by Allbirds will be reduced by 25 per cent
- Double the lifetime of Allbirds’ footwear and apparel products
Responsible use:
- Source 100 per cent renewable energy for ‘owned and operated’ facilities
- Source 100 per cent renewable energy for Tier-I manufacturing partners
- Achieve a steady state of >95 per cent ocean shipping
- Reach 100 per cent of customers machine washing on cold and 50 per cent of customers hang-drying Allbirds apparel
Each of the 10 new commitments in the ‘Allbirds Flight Plan’ has been determined by in-depth scientific analysis and has been reviewed by leading third-party sustainability organisations, consulting groups, as well as its supply chain partners.
