
A delegation from Alibaba, the major worldwide retail and e-commerce giant, paid a visit to Faruque Hassan, President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) on Monday.
Daniel Zhou, the manager of global business development; Tim Song, the head of global strategic partnerships; Lu Fan, in charge of sales planning and operations; and Nasri Ma, the manager of business development for Bangladesh, comprised the Alibaba delegation.
BGMEA Vice President (Finance) Khandoker Rafiqul Islam, Vice President Md. Nasir Uddin, Director Abdullah Hil Rakib, Chairman of Tradeshi Limited Rajib Hossain, Founder and Managing Director of Tradeshi Limited Shadab M Parvez, and President of Pragma Systems Quamrul Mina were also present at the meeting held at BGMEA Complex.
The meeting’s topics of discussion included the state of the global online market, new trends, and the outlook for Bangladesh’s apparel industry online.
Alibaba’s online platform was specifically considered as a means of facilitating commercial prospects for Bangladeshi garment exporters through potential cooperation.
Additionally, they concentrated on cooperative projects that included training programmes from Alibaba and the exchange of technical expertise to improve the capacities of RMG exporters in Bangladesh.
Faruque Hassan, President of BGMEA, emphasised the importance of adapting to evolving market trends to maintain competitiveness and capitalise on emerging opportunities.
He was upbeat about the enormous possibilities that online marketplaces would provide for Bangladesh’s garment industry.
He claimed that a strategic partnership with Alibaba will be essential to opening up online trade, especially in terms of creating a direct channel of communication between Bangladeshi producers and final consumers (B2C).
