An NRF and Prosper Insights & Analytics survey has revealed that about 69 per cent of the US population, 164 million to be precise, will shop on the Thanksgiving weekend this year.
Cyber Monday, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Sunday have too been added to Thanksgiving weekend for the first time in the survey.
“This year, we updated our survey to more accurately capture consumer behaviour throughout the entire shopping weekend — Thanksgiving Day through Cyber Monday,” commented Matthew Shay, President and CEO, NRF.
The survey reported that 32 million customers plan to shop on Thanksgiving Day while Black Friday will remain the busiest day with 115 million customers planning to shop on this day.
Furthermore, 71 million customers opined they will support Small Business Saturday. Figures for Sunday and Cyber Monday will stand at 35 million and 78 million, respectively.
Of those considering spending on the long weekend, 66 per cent stated they’ll take advantage of competitive deals and promotions offered by both stores and online retailers.
According to the survey, 56 per cent of Americans have already started their holiday shopping, while the most have yet to do so.
“Only 12 per cent of consumers have completed at least half of their shopping, while only 2 per cent have finished all of their holiday shopping,” survey says.
The survey was conducted on 7,439 consumers asking about their shopping plans and has a margin of error of plus or minus 1.2 percentage points.
