The Bangladesh Parliament has passed the Textile Bill 2018 with the objective of maintaining and enhancing the quality of textile products.
Notably, Bangladesh continues to earn huge foreign currency from garment exports.
The bill was moved by Mirza Azam, State Minister for Textiles and Jute, and passed by voice vote.
According to the draft law, a directorate will be formed which will be headed by a Director General.
The Director General, appointed by the government, will also work as its registrar. The officers of the directorate will be inspecting the quality and standard of different elements used in textile products, which includes paint and other chemicals.
Meanwhile, the government will also set up a laboratory of world class standard so as to ensure all the necessary tests and inspections are carried out.
The proposed law, however, also states that any company that provides false information while getting registered may lose its registration forever.
