India’s biggest apparel manufacturer and exporter Shahi Exports has started the construction of its new factory at Munavalli village in Shiggaon taluk, Karnataka. This unit will offer excellent investment opportunities and create more jobs for locals.
Basavaraj Bommai, Chief Minister, Karnataka lays the foundation stone of the facility.
The unit is expected to start production by January 2023 and will be expanded further. It will also help develop auxiliary businesses in this region. Shivaram Hebbar, Minister For Labour Department; company’s top officials were also present on this occasion.
On this occasion, he noted that the Shiggaon-Savanur assembly segment has become a hub for the textile industry because small garment industries have already functioned and created more than 2,000 jobs for women.
He said, “The textile park, Shahi Exports and others will be set up and they will function within a year. More than 10,000 local women will get jobs in these industries,” he said.
“Shiggaon has a high unemployment rate and with such a low barrier to entry, the apparel and textile industry is uniquely positioned to provide a stable source of income and empower women. With over 40% of our factories now located in rural areas, the Shiggaon factory is an addition to expansion with the objective of creating rural employment. This facility is projected to employ more than 4500 people, a majority of whom would be women, over two phases. The unit is an addition to our MNB division and will cater to our existing customers as well as new customers.” said Raghavan Ramanujam, CEO, Men & Bottoms Division, Shahi Exports.
