Lately, there have been lots of efforts to promote the garment industry in Uttar Pradesh –especially with regard to ease of doing business for Noida-based apparel manufacturers.
Going forward, efforts have started to include Noida and Greater Noida in the list of Towns of Export Excellence (TEE) for apparels.
A high-level committee under the Chairmanship of District Magistrate, Gautam Budh Nagar has been constituted by Govt. of UP.
Director General Foreign Trade (DGFT), through Joint Export Commissioner, Export Promotion Bureau, UP has requested for the turnover of last 4 years, i.e., FY 2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2019-20 from the readymade garment exporters of the district.
While Gurgaon is already under the esteemed TEE list for apparels, Bhilwara, Bhiwandi, Ahmedabad and Kolhapur too are a part of TEE for textiles.
Noida Apparel Export Cluster (NAEC) has come forward for this initiative and started collecting the required data.
Lalit Thukral, President, NAEC, says that with the inclusion in the TEE, the district will be eligible for many export promotion schemes of Govt. of India, i.e., Central Assistance of States, Market Access Initiative, etc., in addition to the support for strengthening infrastructure, simplifying rules & procedures and developing production infrastructure related to design, R&D packaging, logistic support as well as to provide awareness and information about international marketing. This will pave the wave for further export promotion.
It is pertinent to mention here that Noida has already been declared ‘City of Apparels’ by the Government of UP under the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme.
