
Alpen Banyan Garments BD Company, a Chinese company, will invest US $ 108.99 million to build a woven and knit garment factory inside the BEPZA Economic Zone in Mirsharai of Chittagong.
According to a statement from the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA), this is the largest investment proposal for a factory that the 1,138.55-acre zone has received from a single company.
The facility is planned to be built on 90,000 square metres of land and is expected to manufacture 43 million woven and knit garments a year.
The company will create employment opportunities for 11,995 Bangladeshi nationals, said Bepza.
Md Ashraful Kabir, member for investment promotion at Bepza, and Li Tianning, director of Alpen Banyan Garments BD Company, inked an agreement in this regard at BEPZA Complex in Dhaka.
Major General Abul Kalam The executive chairman of Bepza, Muhammad Ziaur Rahman, expressed gratitude to Alpen Banyan for selecting the Bepza Economic Zone as the location of its investment.
According to him, the biggest project of BEPZA, the BEPZA Economic Zone, received favourable feedback from both domestic and foreign investors. Approximately 29 companies have committed to investing US $ 688 million in the Bepza Economic Zone thus far.
In addition to readymade garments and textiles, these companies are scheduled to produce diversified products such as footwear and footwear accessories, tents and camping equipment, hair care products, and accessories, lubricating oil, and disposable cutlery.
Three companies have already started running commercial production inside BEPZA Economic Zone while three more are expected to make their first export by this year.
