Underlining difficulties are faced in getting released imported consignments, businesses in Bangladesh have called for harassment-free customs and shipping services as far as raw materials and daily commodities are concerned.
According to media reports, the businesses made this call at the first meeting of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry standing committee on import held recently even as they reportedly alleged facing harassment by the port and customs authorities and shipping agents in releasing imported goods, resulting in extra time and money pushing the business and production cost higher.
The importers further reportedly maintained customs authorities fine up to 300 per cent for unintended mistakes in HS Code even if shipping agents also charge different rates, including documentation, survey, security fees, which cost additional Taka 10 crore a day.
