The USA has been witnessing an escalation in the demand for swimwear. During January to April 2018 period, the largest apparel importer in the world imported 21.38 million kg of swimwear, marking a surge of 7.06 per cent over last year.
According to the data released by OTEXA and analysed by Apparel Resources, values of swimwear import too jumped 10.15 per cent from 2017 to reach US $ 606.57 million in the first four months of 2018.
The increase in swimwear demand in the USA has directly benefitted the Asian apparel countries China, Vietnam and Indonesia which continued to be the top 3 countries in exporting swimwear to the USA during the mentioned period.
Despite the ongoing trade tussle between China and USA, the Asian manufacturing powerhouse shipped swimwear to the USA worth US $ 297.21 million (up 6.11%) in the said period, adding another US $ 62 million in April from March’s figures.
Vietnam, the second-largest apparel exporter to the USA, too grew by a commendable 22.17 per cent and exported swimwear to the USA worth US $ 101.64 million as compared to US $ 83.19 million in the same period last year.
Volume-wise too, Vietnam posted a notable surge (18.67%) and shipped 3.72 million kg of swimwear to the USA.
In overall apparel exports, Indonesia may be falling as far as the USA market is concerned but that’s not the case with swimwear, in particular. The country increased its swimwear exports value to the USA from US $ 53.83 million in January to April period of 2017 to US $ 62 million in the corresponding period this year.
