The textiles and apparel sector emerged among the key beneficiaries of Odisha’s latest round of industrial approvals, with major projects in the sector expected to generate around 12,500 jobs and strengthen the state’s manufacturing infrastructure. The sector also stood out as the largest employment generator.
The biggest project in terms of job creation is an apparel manufacturing unit proposed by Nandraj Textiles Pvt Ltd in Khurda. The company will invest Rs. 168.64 crore (US $17.70 million) in the facility, which is expected to create 10,306 jobs, making it one of the most significant employment-generating investments approved by the state in recent years.
Shahi Exports Pvt Ltd has also secured approval to establish a knitted garments manufacturing unit in Sambalpur with an investment of Rs. 145.5 crore (US $15.27 million). The project is expected to generate employment for 1,840 people and further strengthen Odisha’s growing apparel manufacturing ecosystem.
In another boost to the sector, Maa Taratarini Textile Park Pvt Ltd will develop an integrated textile project in Ganjam with an investment of Rs. 70 crore (US $7.34 million). The project is expected to create 350 jobs and contribute to the development of textile infrastructure in the region.
The projects were approved by the State Level Single Window Clearance Authority (SLSWCA), chaired by Chief Secretary Anu Garg. Officials said the investments align with Odisha’s strategy of promoting industrial development across multiple districts rather than concentrating growth in a few established industrial centres.
While Khurda attracted the largest share of investments, substantial projects were also approved in districts including Koraput, Sambalpur, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Dhenkanal, Balangir, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj, underscoring the state’s focus on broad-based economic growth and employment generation.
