The European Commission proposed significant changes to EU green regulations, including a one-year delay in its due diligence strategy and the removal of sustainability reporting obligations for thousands of businesses.
Only businesses with more than 1,000 workers would be required to report on their effects on the environment and human rights under the plans.
According to the commission, the amendment would exempt 40,000 businesses, or 80% of all businesses that the policy was initially intended to apply to. The guidelines presently target businesses with more than 250 employees.
The European Parliament and EU member states will need to agree and accept the ideas.
