As India has an increasing amount of disposable income in households and a growing capacity of the middle class in the country, the retail market has also recorded significant growth with international brands entering Indian markets.
The country’s robust retail sector has solidified its position as a global shopping destination in 2024 with nearly 24 international brands making their grand entrance into the country, marking a significant surge from the previous year’s data, according to reports.
From 2021 to 2024, as many as 57 global brands have set up shop in India, catering to the diverse preferences of Indian consumers. Key factors driving this retail revolution include the increasing youth population, growing middle class and massive global exposure.
India has emerged as the ideal retail destination for retail brands across apparel, fashion, makeup and skincare industries among others. Modern malls in Indian cities offer premium retail spaces and immersive shopping experiences, attracting both domestic and international brands.
The sector with the highest international brands is the beauty and wellness sector followed by the footwear, bags and accessories sector which accounts for 21 per cent of the new brands, indicating a strong demand for stylish and functional accessories, while Fashion and Apparel have recorded a 19 per cent increase.
Several global brands, including Lululemon Athletica, Eternal Journey, Jamba, and Bershka, are gearing up to enter the Indian market in 2025. As Indian consumers continue to seek premium and global experiences, the trend of international brands entering India is expected to remain robust in the coming years.
