Alleging mismanagement of textile cooperative societies working in Maharashtra’s cooperatives sector and misuse of public funds by them, an NGO has moved the Nagpur bench of Bombay high court.
As per media reports, the petitioner, Textile Consumer Foundation (TCF), contended that the share capital invested by the Government in various cooperative spinning mills is not being properly accounted for, thus resulting in loss to the public exchequer.
The petitioner accused the textile cooperatives of violating the Maharashtra Cooperative Society Act and pointed out that the Government had invested heavily in the sector but failed to get returns.
State Textile Secretary And Commissioner, State Cooperation Secretary, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), State Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health, Union Directorate General of Foreign Trade, and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India ICAI) are other respondents in the PIL.
A division bench comprising justices Atul Chandurkar and Vrushali Joshi issued notices to the Secretary of Union Ministry for cooperation and the State Chief Secretary directed them to file a reply within one month.
