As we draw closer to Spring/ Summer 2014, denim joins the league of lush fabrics at the behest of couturiers introducing jacquard in denim, consequently, ditching its rough and rugged appeal and reinventing it with a traditional character. There’s nothing ordinary about these mishmash- jacquards’ delicate patterns, reflective of vintage royalty pitied against the crude quality of denim, contrast at its creative best. From Roccobarocco’s intricately patterned jeans to Isabel Marant’s ultra feminine boot lengths, the trend communicates to the fashionably elite. While jacquard maintains the luxe feel, denim adds eccentricity, reflective in the abstract patterned denim jacket, as seen in the Spring/ Summer collection of Whitney Eve. Not necessarily over the top, Guess and 7 for all Mankind have brought out muted and much wearable versions of the jacquard denim in the form of skinnies, skirts and the staple denim jacket. After creating quite a buzz at fabric trade shows and on the streets of Paris and Tokyo, denim jacquard is without doubt one of the most anticipated denim trend of Spring/Summer 2014.
